Garrett Williamson in Newtown Square hosts Harvest Festival

NEWTOWN — Garrett Williamson’s second annual Harvest Festival event will be held Saturday, Oct. 15, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Garrett Williamson campus, 395 Bishop Hollow Road., Newtown Square.

The festival will feature 20-minute hayrides on Garrett Williamson’s 240-acre property. Hayrides will leave every 10 minutes from the barn and will cost $5.

Garrett Williamson welcomes special musical guests, the Kids Music Experience with Peter Moses, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; 3RowBack from 12:30-2:30 p.m. at the stage.

Barn tours, pumpkin decorating, a straw maze, barrel train, garden activities, bounce house, obstacle course, backyard games, nature hikes, face painting and harvest snacks will be ongoing all afternoon and included in the cost of admission.

Urban Roots Farm, located on the Garrett Williamson property, will be selling pumpkins and seasonal produce. There will also be food trucks, raffles and more.

Activities will be spread across the large educational campus so visitors are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for localized wind.

According to Garrett Williamson’s Executive Director Carol Kaplan Ruark, “The Harvest Festival is a fun way to spend the afternoon with your family. Come celebrate our fall harvest while supporting an organization that serves all children with high-quality educational programs.”

The entrance fee at the gate will be $30 per car or may be purchased in advance for quicker entry to the event at http://www.garrettwilliamson.org. All proceeds benefit Garrett Williamson’s Agriculture Education programs serving children and families in Delaware, Chester, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties.

Garrett Williamson operates Garrett’s Way Early Learning Center for infants through kindergarten, and Camp Garrett, a summer nature day camp, for ages 5 to 15. The organization also runs agriculture education programs from their historic barn, using their 240-acre property as a canvas for learning. They also provide 30% of their participating children with scholarships in order to ensure these high-quality programs are accessible to all, regardless of financial means.

Members of Delaware County law enforcement and faith-based organizations are once again participating in the annual National Faith and Blue event, which takes place Oct. 7-10 this year. Delaware County will kick off the weekend with the Peace, Justice, and Unity March, noon today.

Law enforcement, faith-based organizations, and the community are invited to gather at Second Baptist Church, 400. E State St., Media, at noon and walk down State Street to the Delaware County Courthouse, 201 W. Front St., Media. The Peace, Justice, & Unity March is being hosted by Delaware County Sheriff Jerry Sanders, Media Borough Police Department and Second Baptist Church.

Faith & Blue was launched to facilitate safer, stronger, more just and unified communities by directly enabling local partnerships among law enforcement professionals, residents, businesses, and community groups through the connections of local faith-based organizations.

The initiative aims to re-calibrate police-community relations through solutions-focused, in-person, socially distanced and/or virtual activities that are organized jointly by faith-based or other community groups and law enforcement agencies. The Chester Fire Department will hold an open house block party tonight from 7 to 9 at Third and Tilghman streets.

Associazione Regionale Abruzzese Delco held its 15th annual fundraiser to benefit the Communities of Don Guanella and Divine Providence and the Italian Language Scholarship Fund on Oct. 2 at The Phoenix Ballroom, 1661 Mill Road, Upper Chichester.

Food and beverages were donated by Marino and Paola Giancroce and music was provided by Vito Lombardo of Brooklyn.

A special guest appearance by actor Chris Burke, who played Corky on “Life Goes On” in the 1990s, delighted the crowd when he rallied a few other guys from Don Guanella Village, into a lively rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” Burke is an alumnus of Don Guanella Village.

The Cultural Arts Forum at Neumann University will host designer bag bingo on Friday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Dr. Margaret Mary Kearney Scholarship Program. Attendees can bring their own snacks. Water will be provided.

Cost is $40 for an advance ticket, and $45 at the door. Cost is $280 for a table of eight players and reserved table.

Bags will be by designers Michael Kors, Kate Spade, Tory Burch, Vera Bradley, and Cole Haan, Coach and more. The event will also include a basket bonanza and 50-50 raffle.

Overcomers Through Christ Ministries will host a free Saturday Brunch for seniors ages 65 and above Saturday, Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Eddystone United Methodist Church, 733 Saville Ave., Eddystone. The seniors will be entertained with old time gospel, gospel jazz, a comedian, door prizes and games.

Penn State Extension Master Watershed Stewards’ native tree planting will happen Saturday, Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. in Smedley Park, 20 Papermill Road, Springfield. Nearly 100 shrubs and trees will be planted.

Volunteers are needed. Volunteers should dress to get wet and dirty and are welcome to bring gloves and a shovel.
