Oct. 7—The Community Foundation of Murrysville, Export and Delmont is seeking applicants for small, community-based grants.

"We've now distributed over $30,000 since 2006," said foundation board member Roberta Cook. "Everything from the water trough in Delmont, to fancy grass seed for the Morosini Reserve, to an AED (defibrillator) for Franklin Regional Athletic Association Games, a flagpole for the American Legion, a microwave for Meals on Wheels and Export mine signage."

In 2020, the foundation gave its entire grant, $2,500, to the Westmoreland County Food Bank for supplies to weather the worst of the covid-19 pandemic.

Last year, foundation grants went to:

—The Delmont Historical Society for a National Register of Historic Places sign

—The Delmont Visionary Committee for bike repair stations along the Westmoreland Heritage Trail

—Communities Inc., for field drainage and scoreboard repair at Haymaker Field

—Diabetic supplies for Murrysville Meals on Wheels clients

—Board Books for Babies at the Murrysville Community Library

—A children's vegetable gardening book collection at the Delmont Public Library

"The foundation encourages creativity and initiative by funding local residents' ideas for enriching community life," Cook said.

Applications from nonprofit groups serving the area will be accepted through Nov. 18. Grants in the range of several hundred dollars will be awarded to organizations demonstrating a need for small sums to make a significant, long-term, positive impact on the local community.

To receive an application, email Cook at rcook109@gmail.com.
