'In the stands': Thomas Muller picks between Liverpool and Man City

Thomas Muller picked his English team in an interview this week, seemingly putting it down to Liverpool or Manchester City. The German knew there could only be one answer, though.

Bayern Munich and Germany legend Thomas Muller was asked an interesting question this week – who would be his favourite Premier League team? He’s never actually had to pick one, of course, having grown up in Germany and spent his entire career with Bayern.

Muller had his answer, though.

“I love to watch [Manchester] City,” he told ESPN. “But when I want to be a supporter, maybe I’d want to be in the stands of Liverpool. At Anfield road.”

It’s no major surprise that Muller loves watching City, given his former boss, Pep Guardiola, coaches there. The allure of Anfield is simply too much to resist, however.

Now, this all means precisely nothing, of course, but it is nice to see even the game’s biggest names respect Anfield. It’s easy for Liverpool fans to believe it’s the best ground around but here’s a player that’s seen it all and he’s banging the same drum.

And Muller now has someone alongside him who truly know what Anfield’s all about. Sadio Mané left Liverpool for Bayern Munich this summer, departing as a Red legend.

Mané saw as well as anyone what playing at Anfield means and what the fans can do. He was on the pitch for the 4-0 vs Barcelona, numerous Champions League runs and some of the greatest Premier League performances we’ve seen.

And who wouldn’t want to be a part of that – either playing or in the stands? Certainly, we can’t imagine too many picking City in a choice like this. Unless they truly adore Guardiola’s playing style beyond all else.

Liverpool, though, stands tall as the place to be right now. And maybe Muller fancies a change of scenery in a year or two.
