Roseau, Dominica: Tronnel Pacquette, a Dominican fashion designer, living in the US, hopes that by launching everyday items in Madras prints, young people can become more engaged in appreciating the culture.

The Grand Bay native, who has spent more than 20 years working in the fashion industry, thinks his new all-exclusive Madras collection would help Dominicans appreciate their culture even more.

Pacquette said Madras is part of the culture in Dominica and people must embrace their roots. He added that no fashion company currently uses the Madras to make everyday clothes out of it. He said the major purpose behind launching his new “Madras Fever” range is that the Dominican culture has dwindled a little.

“I am trying to rebuild the culture and engage our youth in it,” said Tronnel Pacquette.

As per the designer, Madras is not an ordinary fabric which makes it very expensive. However, Pacquette said he is looking into ways to make it more affordable for the public.

The designer has also launched his exclusive Madras range for the upcoming Independence season in Dominica under his brand name  Finesse De La Viton Designer Fashion . The range includes beautiful dresses for women, skirts, and tops made with cultural prints made with microfiber yarn. The collection also consists of an exclusive product range for men and children. He also launched the Madras exclusive watches that are available in colours such as black, rose gold and silver. 

“Independence season is your reason to represent strong in this Traditional Madras,” said Pacquette.

Many other everyday items in Madras print features bedsheets, pillow covers, canvas shoes, slip on, jackets, caps, handbags, hand gloves, swimwear, hoodies, car seat cover, steering wheel covers, and clothing for pets such as jackets and bandanas. 

The Independence Day range by Tronnel Pacquette is more affordable compared to most designer brands. People can purchase the exclusive range from the official  website .
