The Bizerba group owns 13 MPS presses across Europe

Expanding on an over 20-year corporate relationship, Bizerba UK has purchased an MPS 10-color EFA 530 flexo press with full LED drying from GEW. The press is destined for a brand new production site for Bizerba and will be used predominantly to print their CleanCut linerless labels for the UK market. The Bizerba group currently operates 13 MPS presses across Europe.

Morag Ash, head of labels at Bizerba UK, provided key input in the decision to purchase the MPS EFA 530 press. “We were looking for a press with improved performance and technology which would enable the business to have minimal make ready-times and improve overall productivity. Considering all the options and our existing relationship with MPS since 2001, which has been excellent over the years, choosing the latest EFA 530 LED press was an easy decision.

“MPS flexo presses have proven outstanding performance plus the added advantage of being servo-driven. They also have an innovative concept on how to control printing and web tension separately, which allows improved printing results. Overall, MPS provides very high reliability, maximum automation, and high-quality service.” The sale was led by Nick Tyrer from MPS UK and Niels van Groenendaal, regional sales director.

When choosing their new flexo press, Bizerba UK’s first choice was full LED drying. This purchase will mark the first MPS press in the UK with full LED drying from GEW. “We have seen the adoption of LED in both Europe and the USA over the last few years, and it is great to see this trend continuing at pace in the UK, as more and more printers realize the many benefits of LED, “said Marcus Greenbrook, director of International Sales for GEW (EC).

“Thanks to Bizerba for being one of the pioneering printers to move to LED, and it made complete sense to purchase their first MPS with LED when starting a new site in the UK. I am sure this will be the first of many.”

Bizerba considered all of the industry’s leading manufacturers before deciding the MPS EFA 530, deciding that MPS was the press that ticked all the boxes. The ability to add innovative expandable features such as the latest MPSConnect feature was another major plus.

MPSConnect is a proprietary Internet of Things (IoT) technology, which allows an MPS press to be monitored in real-time. MPSConnect tracks essential data and provides up-to-date reports to assist customers by providing insights into limiting downtime, reducing cost, and preventing breakdowns, along with ordering just in time parts and supplies to be available as and when required.

“We are looking forward to adopting MPSConnect in the near future, the benefits of the program will allow us to enhance further and improve our performance and output,” concluded Ash.

The Covid-19 pandemic led to the country-wide lockdown on 25 March 2020. It will be two years tomorrow as I write this. What have we learned in this time? Maybe the meaning of resilience since small companies like us have had to rely on our resources and the forbearance of our employees as we have struggled to produce our trade platforms.

The print and packaging industries have been fortunate, although the commercial printing industry is still to recover. We have learned more about the digital transformation that affects commercial printing and packaging. Ultimately digital will help print grow in a country where we are still far behind in our paper and print consumption and where digital is a leapfrog technology that will only increase the demand for print in the foreseeable future.

Web analytics show that we now have readership in North America and Europe amongst the 90 countries where our five platforms reach. Our traffic which more than doubled in 2020, has at times gone up by another 50% in 2021. And advertising which had fallen to pieces in 2020 and 2021, has started its return since January 2022.

As the economy approaches real growth with unevenness and shortages a given, we are looking forward to the PrintPack India exhibition in Greater Noida. We are again appointed to produce the Show Daily on all five days of the show from 26 to 30 May 2022.
