Polestar's average batting rate in the styling department is very good. The gorgeous Polestar 1 was born in the form of the Volvo Concept Coupe, and then it was put into production as the company's prestigious but limited production plug-in hybrid coupe. Now, it has stepped out of Volvo's shadow with its well-proportioned Precept concept car-a harbinger of the future.

Precept made its first appearance in North America at an event held in New York on December 2. This car is the pioneer of Polestar's future design direction, and will be put into production in the form of modification as Polestar 5 in 2024.

Polestar is a new global brand launched in an increasingly challenging environment that needs to deal with COVID and chip shortages. The Polestar 1 went into production in 2017, and the mainstream battery car Polestar 2 went into production in 2019. In general, Polestar has three continents and 14 markets (plans to expand to 30 by the end of 2023), and sales this year may reach 29,000. The company hopes to increase it to 65,000 vehicles next year and 290,000 vehicles per year by 2025. The now discontinued Polestar 1 is the only car of the brand with an internal combustion engine-from now on, it is all electric.

Sales growth like this will depend on the company's impact on the Polestar 3 all-electric SUV, which will begin production next year at Volvo's manufacturing base in South Carolina. Polestar describes Polestar as the debut of an "aerodynamic performance electric SUV" 3 with some shared Volvo components, with the goal of launching in mid-2022. Polestar 4 is a lower-priced SUV, which will be launched in 2023.

The company has a major sustainability focus and has stated that it will launch carbon-neutral vehicles in 2030 (no emissions during production or in the supply chain). The company also uses blockchain technology to track carbon dioxide emissions and trace the source of cobalt in batteries (mainly from the conflict-torn Democratic Republic of Congo).

Because it created a different identity from Volvo, Polestar will be listed in the SPAC transaction, which will be completed early next year and means the company's corporate value is 20 billion U.S. dollars. Polestar currently has 25 exhibition halls in the United States, but will increase to 38 by 2022, and eventually reach 50, and can use 800 service centers. Customers in the United States will get home delivery, as well as pick-up and return services. Polestar estimates that 40% of its sales will come from Europe and the Middle East, 30% from Asia, and 30% from North America.

The low four-door four-seater Precept has a rear hinged rear door and no central pillar, but Max Missoni, Polestar's head of design, told Penta that this feature is used to highlight the interior of the display, rather than possibly going into production.

Style details include a camera instead of exterior mirrors, a built-in screen in the door; a large vertical center display; and sustainable linen fiber door panels and decorations. "They look like carbon fibers, but they have their own unique characteristics," he said. "We let them back light to produce a dramatic effect." We also use 3D knitted fabrics on the seats, made from recycled bottles. ”The 3-D knitted fabric used for the seats is made from recycled bottles. (Polestar 2 introduces a vegan interior.)

According to Missoni, Precept introduced "our independent design language, some of which will be seen in Polestar 3." It almost eliminated the front grille and replaced it with a set of sensors, combined with a boomerang shape. The "double-blade" headlights. The spoon on the hood improves aerodynamics.

Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath said that Polestar 5 and the Precept concept "will not be too far apart." He said that the Polestar 3 scheduled to be in South Carolina will also be produced in Chengdu, China, for the domestic and European markets. "We are very clearly advocating free trade," he said. American-made cars may also be sold in Europe or elsewhere. He said that it is unlikely that Polestar 1 will reappear with a full-battery drivetrain.

Ingenlath said that although the brand image is different from Volvo, close cooperation will continue. "It would be foolish to do this in any other way," he said.
